Bobby wanted to join us in Dallas. He had a short list- The US Bureau of Engraving and Printing, Medieval Times, and the site of the JFK assassination. We missed the first two when he was with us and we ran out of time in Washington DC and Baltimore. We were late to Medieval Times due to traffic between Houston and Dallas, but they caught us up and we still had fun cheering for our knight in the tournament.
We didn't take pictures at the "Sixth Floor Museum" as the JFK assassination museum is called. I have to remember how Rebecca is affected by these places. She was interested in the history- the events of the years leading up to the shooting- which was well done, very well laid out. About 3/4 through, they covered the actual assassination. It got under her skin--she was very sad. Bobby was interested in the conspiracy theories and all the commissions and panels and investigations. They had a section all their own.
Thanks to the suggestion of my friend and classmate, Carol, we had an unexpectedly awesome time at the Dallas Zoo! Unexpected, because zoos are fun, but not usually the highlight of a trip. Awesome, because this zoo has maximized the visitors' experience. The giraffe habitat is below ground level- we were eye to eye with these amazing animals. We were able to buy heads of lettuce to hand feed them! We could pet their necks and cheeks. Wow...
They had a walk in aviary in which we were able to see dozens of birds, but the lorakeet aviary was a HOOT! We got a little sugar water and we were their new best friends. One really got into Becca's ear wax, and one was a little pick pocket in Carol's purse. :)
We got safely up close to chimps, and big cats, and we were able to watch a cheetah training session.
Becca has become an aquarium fan. They are so much more than fish these days! The Dallas Aquarium has otters, a sloth that was hanging around at eye level, flamingos, and penguins in addition to thousands of fish.
