Sleeping Bear Dunes and Glen Lake v. 30

Our first full day at Glen Arbor, Becca, Patty, and I kayaked on the Crystal River.
She's a natural!

Patty said she hadn't done it for years, but I'm not sure that is true.  She "shot the tube" like an expert! Watch her make the turn immediately as she exited the tube.  I think she's been practicing...

Becca pulled her kayak back across the road and shot the tube again- backwards!

Bob and Don golfed.  There are no pictures or scorecards, but from what I hear, Bob golfed out of his mind on the front 9, then the wheels fell off and he was back to normal.  Just enough greatness to want to go back.

Atop the dune with Glen Lake behind us

Climbing a dune is not like climbing a mountain.  You think you are taking a big step, then the sand falls away so your step is about six inches.  It wasn't long before we took a lot of steps and ... didn't get very far.  Age is not helpful in this process.  When you're 12, you can run up the dune and call back to your parents, "Hey!  What's taking you so long?!"  There is no need to answer, since the 12 year old doesn't want to hear, "knees...lungs...conditioning".  We are stubborn however!  What we lack in speed we make up for in endurance and determination.  Eventually, we made it up the dune- just so we could say we did it.

Thanks to Patty and Don, we had an "Escape Hatch" to crash in after the climb!
Our wonderful and gracious hosts!
Becca has been asking to sleep out in the tent all summer.  Sleeping Bear Dunes National Park has a campground right on the lake, and since we were "RVless" we decided that this was the time.  It turned out like we thought-
sleeping on the ground is not comfortable...
the stars were AWESOME!
it was only $12 for the night.
the 4 man tent we have was just big enough for 3
it really does pop up by itself in seconds!
it is a 2 person job to get it back into the bag (but we did it :))
YAY! We had an "Escape Hatch" to crash in after the campout!! (THANKS Patty and Don!!)

Becca doing her best impression of a butterfly "de-cocooning"

Thank goodness THAT request is checked off the list!
