Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park v. 40

I am sure that I am repeating myself, but I must say that the National Park Rangers and Ranger Programs are  excellent.  We have such beauty and history in our parks, and they add that layer of knowledge that helps the common non scientist or historian appreciate whatever they are experiencing.  We have now come across over 100 professional, part time, or volunteer Rangers, and we have met exactly 2 that we thought should find another line of work.

Ranger Susan

Acadia National Park is a beauty!  We attended a talk about beavers- their habitats and habits.  Ranger Susan assembled a beaver skeleton right out of her Rubbermaid container.  She took parts out, explained them, passed them around.  We learned that a beaver HAS TO chew logs to wear down his teeth or they will continue to grow in a dangerous curve toward his body.  We walked down to check out some beaver habitat and find them moving around in the water.  Then Susan let us play with her toys!

The first sunrise in the USA is on Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park.We stepped out of character and got up early!

With hundreds of others!

 And cruise ships!

It was freezing!

But breath taking.

Bar Harbor is a cute little touristy town near Acadia.  I found it kind of funny that three of the ice cream shops were voted best in the area- by different groups of course.

We ate lots and lots of clam chowder, and wrestled with a few tasty lobsters.  We even went whale watching, but sadly, didn't see any whales. We got vouchers to come back...
