Baseball Hall of Fame v. 41

Bec found Red Barry Larkin's display
Becca has been a Reds fan since she was about 5 years old.  We have a couple of theories as to why:
She liked the color red.
We were all pulling for the Red Sox in 2004, she mixed up the teams and stuck to the Reds.
Danny has the White Sox, Bobby has the Cubs, Bob has the Mets, and Becca wanted her own team.  Combine that with the above, and she chose the Reds.  That's 8 years rooting for this team, and a lot of them have been pretty dismal years.  This year and the playoffs, though over for the Reds, has been pretty exciting.  I'm writing this as the World Series is starting, and Bec is missing Dad.  In her words,"I love you Mom, but Dad's just way more fun to watch baseball with"....

Anyway, we went to the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY, to begin the next segment of our trip.  The story goes that the game of baseball, created by Abner Doubleday was first played here.  There is a small stadium where an actual Major League Baseball game is played every year when the new members of the Hall of Fame are inducted.

Becca has been watching A League of Their Own with Geena Davis and Tom Hanks.  She asked me yesterday, "Where are the women?"  We have this photo of her in the display of the All American Girls Professional Baseball League, so I wondered if she forgot.  But no, she wanted to know where they were in the actual Hall of Fame plaques.  Well, the baseball writers have never voted in a woman, but Effa Manley, an owner of the Newark Eagles, was inducted posthumously in 2006.  So there is one...

There is a very fun area celebrating Abbott and Costello's famous routine, "Who's on First".  That is a must see!

The town is packed with memorabilia shops and restaurants (and t-shirt shops, but they are not as interesting).  Some of the card, ball, and photo shops are cool, and the owners are very knowledgeable and chatty.  We were amazed at their immediate recall of their inventory.  The stuff they have is incredible.  My favorite thing that I had never seen before were team logo yarmulkes.
