Sequoia and Kings Canyon v. 82

No tire chains needed.  The weather cooperated nicely, there were some road construction delays,  but we were able to travel the route from the "General Sherman" tree to the "General Grant" tree, and stop at a few interesting sites along the way.

Sequoia and Kings Canyon are less than a day's drive for over 30 million people.  We visited between "seasons", still encountered lots of people, but were able to navigate pretty comfortably.

If a tree falls in the woods, and no one is there to witness.......
We saw some of the damage done each year by nature's might.  This dead tree crashed across a walking path, and destroyed fences on both sides.  Like breaking toothpicks.

The General Grant Tree was named a national shrine by President Eisenhower in honor of those killed in war. It is the only living thing to be so designated.  President Coolidge named it "the nation's Christmas tree" in 1926.  It is the third largest tree in the world by volume, eclipsed only by the General Sherman, and the President- also in the National Park.

The General Grant is enormous!!
We rented a car to make the circuit, and did not need the 4 wheel drive.  Whew...  next stop- Yosemite!
