Bryce Canyon v.11

As the Grand Tetons are majestic, Bryce Canyon is surreal.  And it is not really a canyon! It was formed by frost freezing and thawing rather than a river cutting through it. There is just no concise geological term for it, so they still call it a canyon.

We stayed one night at the cabins by the Bryce Canyon Lodge, because right out the back door, maybe 100 yards, is the rim of one of the strangest, most mystical "canyons" on the face of the earth.

Someone asked if I was really on this trip, so I handed the camera to Bob and lucky you- you get to see me in some of these photos!

We Hiked the Hoodoos on the Navajo and Queen's Garden Trails.  The rock formations are called hoodoos, and many of them have been given individual names, like "Thor's Hammer".  I thought the formation in the last photo looked like a Madonna statue.

Sometimes being short is OK...

Hikers have created their own hoodoo garden.  I don't think this was there when we came in 1997!
